Biography
Christopher Kummer is a Professor and Advisor on strategy and mergers & acquisitions (M&A).
As an Advisor, Christopher Kummer supports companies with ambitions to expand internationally on their strategy formulation and execution of alliances, acquisitions and disposals. In his career to date he has been involved in transactions and alliances at every stage from strategy to integration and post-acquisition review and all sizes with a total known transaction value of more than EUR 12 billion. He supports governments as well as intergovernmental organizations in exploring the opportunities and challenges of M&A. He has led an M&A practice at the world's largest professional services firm and has recruited non-executive and executive board members worldwide with one of the world’s most influential executive search boutiques. He is the founder of a corporate finance and strategy boutique - Kummer Investment & Advisory - and serves on the advisory board of another M&A consulting company as well.
In his academic role, he is co-founder and President of the Zurich-based Institute of Mergers, Acquisitions and Alliances (IMAA), a non-profit academic think tank on Mergers & Acquisitions. He is the Director Graduate Business Programs and a Faculty Member at Webster University in Vienna, Austria, an Associated Faculty of the Microeconomics of Competitiveness Network of Prof. Michael Porter at the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard Business School, an Affliate Professor of Strategy at Grenoble Ecole de Management, Grenoble, France, and a Professor of Finance at Hult International Business School in London, UK, and Shanghai, China. He has also held a range of positions at other universities and institutions, including the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), Lausanne, Switzerland. He teaches strategy and finance course, trainings and workshops for C-level executives, investment bankers, lawyers, consultants and traditional students from all continents. He is often invited as a speaker to conferences and a frequently sought after commentator with the international media, including Bloomberg, Dow Jones, Financial Times, and Reuters. He is a contributor the Financial Times Lexicon. His articles have been published in several languages.
Christopher Kummer graduated with a lic. oec. (MBA) majoring on strategy & organization from the University-HSG St. Gall, Switzerland. He received his Doctorate (PhD) from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, with a dissertation on "International Mergers & Acquisitions Activity: Development, Diffusion and Strategic Intentions".
