The CFA Institute is a global association of investment professionals which provides the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. The CFA Institute requires every CFA holder to participate in continuing education (CE) programs on a yearly basis. Through a rigorous application process, the CFA Institute recognizes only the top educational providers for CFA professionals to complete their CE requirements with. I recently completed my IM&A (in-person) and M&AP (online) certifications. Both experiences were incredibly rewarding. The instructors had the depth of knowledge and personal experience you’d expect. The class was full of high-caliber, whip-smart, and friendly people. I learned from everyone. What I appreciated most about IMAA and the instructors (both in person and online) was often repeated notes of humility and ethics. I’d recommend attending the in-person course if possible but both were valuable.
As a part of my MBA program, I enrolled in the Entrepreneurial Finance course. The assessment process required a role-play exercise in which my group represented the buy-side while the target group represented the sell-side in the acquisition of a company. This novel and challenging process made me curious about the overall concept of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and its complete scope. In my research, IMAA was featured many times, and I enrolled in the program. After completing two courses, I can attest that every experience has provided me with new perspectives on how to approach deals and a shift in my understanding of stakeholder engagement/management.
