Functional Integration – Supply Chain and R&D

The course on functional integration focused on core functions such as Finance, HR, Marketing, and Sales. Obviously these are core to a successful integration, but I’ve seen integration of Supply Chain and R&D as being equally (if not even more) challenging due to complexity, unique company-by-company structure, and high cost (particularly fixed costs if there are warehouses, manufacturing facilities, etc.). Does anyone have lessons learned from integration of these functions?
