Professor Aswath Damodaran provides valuation training for IMAA as one of the institute’s faculty members. He teaches the corporate finance and valuation courses in the MBA and executive programs. Being at NYU since 1986 he has received the Stern School of Business Excellence in Teaching Award.
The article on “India Needs a Green Computing Infrastructure” is one of the article pieces Prof. Damodaran has written to put emphasis on the urgent need for sustainable practices in the country’s rapidly growing IT sector. As India progresses towards becoming a global economic powerhouse, he noted that this will also have an environmental impact of the IT industry, including significant electronic waste and high energy consumption by data centers, has become a critical concern.
He discusses that while several initiatives have been launched to address these issues, energy-efficient data centers are a pivotal aspect of green computing in India. These centers would help adopt renewable energy sources, innovative cooling methods, and AI-powered systems which is an effective way to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. The Indian Green Business Council (IGBC) has also established guidelines and a rating system to enhance resource efficiency and sustainability in data centers.
Professor Damodaran believes that by prioritizing green computing infrastructure, India can reduce the environmental footprint of its IT sector while fostering economic growth and attracting international collaborations and investments.
