Yes, AI is already starting to play a meaningful role in M&A, and its impact will grow materially over the next few years. AI won’t replace judgment or deal craft, but that it does change where humans spend their time in the M&A lifecycle… it’s like a multiplier for the team, not a substitute for leadership judgment.

AI already plays an important role across the M&A lifecycle. It can support target screening, due diligence, contract review, financial analysis, risk identification, and synergy estimation. During integration, AI can compare processes, applications, data, and cloud environments across both organizations. It can also identify overlaps and dependencies that may affect the integration plan.

AI is also creating new M&A opportunities across related industries. AI companies need cloud capacity, data infrastructure, reliable energy, and sometimes robotics capabilities to deploy their solutions. M&A can therefore bring together companies with complementary strengths and create integrated platforms that would be difficult to build internally.

However, AI should remain a decision-support tool. Leaders must validate its outputs, protect confidential information, and consider issues that AI may not fully understand, such as culture, employee concerns, and stakeholder relationships. Strong governance and human judgment remain essential.
